It's been a big first year
Thank you for your support!

In JUST ONE year, the LGBT Institute has:

  • Convened 30 of the best and brightest LGBT and straight allied academics and advocates to help lead our work.

  • Attracted more than a dozen Founding Program Partners.

  • Provided a platform for the work of more than 50 local, state, and national organizations, helping amplify their message.

  • Engaged more than 100+ influential community leaders in our Stakeholder groups.

  • Received support from hundreds of individual donors.

  • Secured a research partnership with Georgia State University, one of the most diverse and enterprising public research universities in the nation.

  • Found a permanent home for hundreds of hours of film archives and artifacts featuring Atlanta’s LGBT community by creating the LGBT Institute Archives at Georgia State University

  • Educated and inspired more than 15,000 people about Atlanta’s LGBT history through the our education programs and exhibit at The Center.

  • Supported the LGBT and allied community in a time of mourning by hosting 3,000+ people at The Center to grieve and find resilience.

  • Organized an LGBT History Tour to educate the community on the historic moments and places that make up our past and provide direction for our future--telling our history that has long been denied.

  • Announced our first Symposium to be held November 18-20th at Georgia State University, hosted by Delta Airlines.

  • In collaboration with partnering organizations, created a crisis care toolkit and legal resource guide to help victims and families of the Orlando massacre.

  • Prepared to launch a Southern Survey across 14 Southern states to gain a deeper understanding of the unique needs of LGBT citizens in the South, and shine a spotlight on issues that are not often talked about, in particular the experiences of LGBT people of color and those at the intersections of identities.

  • Identified research briefs and gap studies that focus on black gay men, transgender women of color and housing, and LGBT long-term elder care.
  • We have a lot more work ahead. With your help and continued support, we can deliver education and research that provides a platform for those most marginalized in our communities. There really is nothing like the LGBT Institute in the South, or the world. Thank you for being visionary and investing in this work. It truly is a down payment on the future of equality.
