Opens Sept. 16
Hear stories describing experiences from Indiana's LGBT community both past and present. This exhibition in our fourth-floor Rosemary McKee Lanham Gallery highlights oral histories from the LGBT Collecting Initiative. The interviews featured in the exhibit were all conducted by Indianapolis photographer Mark Lee.
We invite visitors to listen to some unexpected stories as told by those who lived them. Hear from a variety of Hoosier perspectives spanning cities and towns throughout the state and as told by Hoosiers both young and old.
You'll learn what life was like during the AIDS epidemic, for rural and black Hoosiers and about the importance of safe spaces in the early days before cultural acceptance. Listen to Indiana LGBT community members discuss marriage rights, coming out and transitioning. You'll also hear today's stories – from marriage lawsuits to growing up with gay parents and the role of LGBT allies.
