The International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia & Biphobia (IDAHOT), held annually on May 17th since 2005, is today the world’s largest LGBTI solidarity action. Actions take place every year in more than 120 countries and, in 2013/2014, hundreds of millions of people were reached by messages about the Day online. At least 3,000 news articles were published around May 17 in 2014.
The Day represents an annual landmark to draw the attention of decision makers, the media, the public, opinion leaders and local authorities to the alarming situation faced by lesbian, gay, bisexuals, transgender and intersex people and all those who do not conform to majority sexual and gender norms.
